The Quebec Bar Disciplinary Council has fined an attorney for derogatory remarks at an asylum hearing
On October 8, 2021, during a hearing held before the Refugee Protection Division (RPD), while representing a family of asylum seekers, the respondent made derogatory remarks towards the member presiding over the hearing :
What are you, threatening my client? Clearly you are threatening my client Mr. Board member. And know that there is going to be a big complaint against you after this hearing. You are. You are. I don’t think you should be in a position of authority in any any kind of way. And I think you are biased on mental health and against refugees altogether. So you’ll see what’s going to happen to you
You’ll see what’s going to happen to you. There is going to be a complaint. I’m threatening you right now. Oh yes, it’s going to be all on paper. It’s going to be all on paper and there’s going to be a problem about it, for you and for your career as a board member.

You are so biased. It’s disgusting what you are doing. You need to know, it’s disgusting. You are acting in a disgusting way. That’s all I gotta say. Very very very well informed, very well trained board member. Trained by systemic racism. Good job. Amazing. Biased on mental health. Biased on refugees. Biased on the fact that I will see if you are sick enough to see if I am going to grant the postponement or not. It’s great and I hope all of this is being recorded at the moment to be honest because… how much you are so inappropriate.

You have no sensitivity. There is no way you should be in this position Mr. Board member. You are not well…
The attorney had pled guilty to the charge. (Mike Frisch)
