Reciprocal Sanction For Jason Ravnsborg
The Iowa Supreme Court imposed reciprocal discipline based on a South Dakota sanction of its former state Attorney General
This matter came before the court, en banc, on January 22, 2025, for hearing on the question of imposition of reciprocal discipline against attorney Jason Richard Ravnsborg (Ravnsborg), Ft. McCoy, Wisconsin.
On September 26, 2024, the court entered a reciprocal discipline notice and order in this matter pursuant to Iowa Court Rule 34.19, regarding a six-month license suspension against Ravnsborg, which the South Dakota Supreme Court imposed for violations of various sections of Rule 8.4 of the South Dakota Rules of Professional Conduct.
This court’s notice and order directed Ravnsborg and the Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board (Board), within 30 days of receipt of the notice and order, to inform the court “of any claim that imposition of identical discipline in this state would be too severe, too lenient, or otherwise unwarranted, giving the specific reasons therefor.”
Ravnsborg timely responded to the notice and order objecting to imposition of identical reciprocal discipline in Iowa as unwarranted and stating that the court should impose no more than a private reprimand. The court set this matter for hearing pursuant to Iowa Court Rule 34.19(2).
Ravnsborg represented himself at the hearing. Alexis Warner Grove represented the Board. At the hearing, the Board requested the court to impose identical reciprocal 1 1 of 4discipline of a six-month suspension of Ravnsborg’s Iowa license to practice law.
The court finds that a 60-day suspension of Ravnsborg’s license to practice law in Iowa is the appropriate discipline in this matter. Id. r. 34.19(3)(c).
The 60-day suspension of Ravnsborg’s license to practice law begins on the date of this order. Id. r. 34.23(1). The suspension applies to all facets of the practice of law. Id. r. 34.23(4). Ravnsborg must comply with the notification requirements of Iowa Court Rule 34.23(2). Iowa Court Rule 34.24 procedures apply to any subsequent reinstatement of Ravnsborg’s license to practice. Id. r. 34.19(4). The court taxes the costs of this action to Ravnsborg in accordance with Iowa Court Rule 36.24(1)
