From Candidate To Disbarred

WMTV reports on a recent disbarment in Maine

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court has officially ordered that one-time Maine gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler be disbarred.

Cutler, who pleaded guilty last year to four felony charges of possessing child pornography after police found 142,000 pornographic images and videos of children on his electronic devices, was previously disbarred in the State of New York.

Cutler agreed to a disbarment back in February, and this order affirms that and makes it official.

Should he want to be reinstated to practice in the Maine bar, Cutler would have to petition the Supreme Judicial Court.

After he was initially arrested in March of 2022, Cutler was sentenced to four years behind bars in May 2023, with all but nine months suspended.

He served just over seven months at Hancock County Jail before he was released in January of this year.

Cutler also has to register as a sex offender in Maine for the rest of his life.
