Drug Offenses Lead To License Surrender

The Nebraska Supreme Court accepted the voluntary license surrender of an attorney convicted of drug possession charges

On February 24, 2021, the respondent was arrested in Douglas County, Nebraska, and charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance, all Class IV felonies.

On March 23, 2021, we temporarily suspended the respondent’s license to practice law based on the criminal charges filed against him in Douglas County, as noted above. His license remains suspended.

On March 3, 2022, in the district court for Douglas County, the respondent entered a plea of no contest in case No. CR
21-702 to two charges: possession of cocaine, a Class IV felony, and possession of fentanyl, a Class IV felony. As part of the plea agreement, the State dismissed two other charges.

On April 13, 2022, the respondent was sentenced to a 30-month term of probation.

The case is STATE EX REL. COUNSEL FOR DIS. V. GAGE Cite as 316 Neb. 443

WFTV 9 had a story about his drug issues

A Nebraska criminal defense attorney out on bail for drug charges was found unresponsive in an Omaha parking lot, authorities said.

Robb Gage, 44, of Omaha, was found slumped unconscious over the wheel of his vehicle in a Walgreen’s parking lot on Aug. 14, The Omaha World-Herald reported.

Taken to an area hospital, Gage later told police that he took two hydrocodone pills for a toothache, the newspaper reported. A judge this week ordered Gage to a halfway house and treatment, according to the World-Herald.

Gage was free on bail after police said they found him with heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and mushrooms earlier this year, the newspaper reported.

Gage went to the Betty Ford Center to work on his addictions. He returned to Omaha in early June and began working at an area restaurant, the World-Herald reported.

“It’s a lot harder than I thought it would be,” Gage told the newspaper.

Gage is awaiting trial for four counts of felony drug possession. He is accused of using the drugs with his roommate, John K. Cameron, of Omaha. Gage was representing Cameron of charges that he brought back heroin after taking a trip to Denver, according to the World-Herald.

Told that his latest experience scared many people in the Douglas County Courthouse who know him, Gage said, “I know. It scared me, too.”

Gage’s attorney, Greg Pivovar, said he is checking into options for treatment at Valley Hope rehabilitation center.
