Former DA License Struck
The license of a convicted attorney was struck by the New York Appellate Division for the Third Judicial Department
Respondent was admitted to practice by this Court in 2005 and previously served as Broome County District Attorney. In 2021, respondent and an alleged accomplice were charged in a multicount indictment in connection with allegations that they had stolen property belonging to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office, among other things.
Spectrum News 1 reported on the guilty plea
The former official admitted to stealing property in March 2019 consisting of Broome County felony case records, the DA’s office said.
Cornwell was sentenced to a three-year conditional discharge and a fine of $5,000. He was initially charged in two indictments by a grand jury but a judge dismissed one.
Cornwell’s former assistant, James Worhach, also pleaded guilty Monday to one count of criminal possession of stolen property, according to the DA’s office. He was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. He still faces several felony counts in a second indictment filed by a grand jury.
Cornwell was Broome County DA from 2016 to 2019. He also briefly ran for Congress in 2020 and ran unsuccessfully for Broome County Family Court judge the same year.
