A felony conviction has led to a 180-day suspension by a hearing panel of the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board.

WWMT.com reported

A federal judge sentenced Susan Wright, a nurse practitioner under her husband Dr. Roger Beyer, to three years probation for her connection in a healthcare fraud case.

Wright was also ordered to pay $461,923 in restitution costs for defrauding Medicare and $5,000 in fines. She was sentenced Sept. 9, 2020, in the U.S. District Court Western District of Michigan.

In May, Wright pleaded guilty to misprision of healthcare fraud and adulteration of medical devices.

Both Wright and Beyer faced federal charges related to their now-closed practices at two West Michigan clinics, Women’s Health Care Specialists and Urological Solutions of Michigan.

Federal prosecutors said Wright had worked with Beyer to reuse one of the medical devices, as well as to commit health care fraud. Investigators said she knew about the fraudulent billing and reuse of devices, but didn’t tell authorities.

The attorney has been suspended effective June 1,2020. The sanction is prospective. (Mike Frisch)
