The Michigan Attorney Discipline Board has ordered the interim suspension of an attorney for a federal felony conviction.
The press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan describes the case
Dr. Roger Beyer pled guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and adulteration of devices related to conduct involving his practices, Women’s Health Care Specialists (“WHCS”) and Urological Solutions of Michigan (“USM”). Susan Wright, his spouse and a Nurse Practitioner who performed some services at WHCS and USM pled guilty to misprision of healthcare fraud and adulteration of medical devices. As set forth below, Dr. Beyer and Ms. Wright are scheduled for sentencing before United States District Judge Janet T. Neff on September 9, 2020.
Patients at USM who are also Medicare beneficiaries may have been charged copays for the improper billing of diagnostic codes as part of their pelvic muscle rehabilitation (“PMR”) therapy and/or fraudulent evaluation and management services (office visits) billed alongside their PMR therapy. Additionally, patients of USM and WHCS who received PMR therapy, as well as WHCS patients who received anorectal manometry diagnostic testing, may have been the recipients of services using adulterated medical devices. This adulteration may have exposed those patients to certain infections and diseases. Such patients can review the press release issued by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services on June 11, 2019, encouraging patients of Dr. Roger Beyer and his practices to consult with their treating physicians about undergoing any testing (https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/0,5885,7-339–499502–,00.html).
She was sentenced to probation and over $461,000 in restitution. (Mike Frisch)
