Boundaries
The North Carolina State Bar has charged an attorney with inappropriate conduct toward a vulnerable client who had contacted him in 2017 for assistance in a divorce and custody matter.
He allegedly was aware that she was unemployed, homeless and had mental health and drug issues when he offered to represent her for free and paid for her hotel room.
On June 26, 2017 (according to the charges) she advised him she intended to consult with another attorney. He discouraged her from telling that attorney about their connection and his “lack of appropriate boundaries.”
Two days later they met in the hotel room.
He allegedly paid for the room, brought a six-back of beer and some wine, kissed her and touched her breast and genitals.

It appears to admit the hotel allegations save for the genital touching. (Mike Frisch)
