“It Always Costs Brother”

The Ohio Disciplinary Counsel has  filed a 24-page complaint alleging client-related misconduct in multiple matters.

There is also a conviction for telecommunications fraud relating directly to the administration of justice.

The attorney represented client K.R. who had been charged with felony domestic violence against Kayla Pupo. Pupo was a former employee of the respondent.

The complaint alleges that Pupo asked him how she could prevent a prison sentence for K.R.

His advice was for her to recant her statement to the police and “dodge any subpoena” by getting out of town (Solon, not Dodge) for several weeks.

He allegedly told K.R. that K.R. needed to finance Pupo’s departure and that he would be “coordinating her ‘disappearance’ for a price.”

K.R. to Respondent in a recorded conversation:

“You also told me it was going to cost me. What the fuck do you mean by that?”

Respondent:

“It always costs brother.”

And

“I’m gonna make this happen. I’m gonna make this go away, and you’re gonna be proud of me.”

Pride goeth before the fall.

Respondent and K.R. met for lunch, where respondent received cash.

As he was leaving the restaurant, he was busted.

He falsely advised the police that the cash was a legal fee.

Bribery charges (reported here) were dismissed and he pleaded guilty to telecommunications fraud.
