A guilty plea to third degree retail fraud has led to the disbarment of a Michigan attorney
Respondent was convicted, by guilty plea, of attempted third degree retail fraud, in violation of MCl 750.356D4[A], in People of the State of Michigan v Mark Andrew Kaufman, 54A District Court Case No. 15-05319. Respondent was also convicted, by guilty plea, of attempted third degree retail fraud, in violation of MCl 750.356D4[A], in People of the State of Michigan v Mark Andrew Kaufman, 54A District Court Case No. 16-04168. Based on these convictions, the panel found that respondent engaged in conduct that violated a criminal law of a state or of the United States, an ordinance, or tribal law pursuant to MCR 2.615, in violation of MCR 9.104(5).

Police from Lansing and Lansing Township arrested 21 people last week – including a 12-year-old -in what they’re calling a “shoplifting blitz.”
The police partnered with stores including Walmart, Meijer, Target, Sears, Kmart, and Kroger – and on Wednesday and Thursday, November 18th and 19th,
They spent 15 hours over the course of those two days working with loss prevention officers in the various stores to make the arrests.
They arrested 13 men and 7 women. Seventeen of them are from Lansing. The others are from Fowlerville, St. Johns, Mason, and Holt. They did not say if the 12-year-old was male or female.
Police say they wanted to let people know they’re keeping an eye out for these crimes – particularly in the run-up to the holiday shopping season.
“This collaborative effort between Police Departments and local retail stores strengthened relationships and sent a strong message to people considering shoplifting,” said Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski.
Lansing Police will be keeping up higher forces over the holiday weekend in and out of uniform so those planning on shoplifting head their warning for no tolerance towards stealing.
