Hail Concordia!

My erstwhile colleague Mike Oths (formerly Idaho Bar Counsel and now Magistrate Judge)  has advised me that his Professional Responsibility  class at Concordia University School of Law picks out a “case of the day” from this blog to stimulate class discussions of lawyer ethics.

Mike and I along with David Curtin (Rhode Island), Scott Davis (Maine), Roberta Yang (California) and Jim Grogan (Illinois) presented the Current Developments panel for the National Organization of Bar Counsel at the bi-annual meetings for a number of years. The experience gave me a great opportunity to learn about the law of lawyering around the country with first-rate colleagues.

This was in the pre-Internet and pre-fax era where we had to (i) reach out to the jurisdictions to get them to mail us copies of their new opinions; and (ii) review advance sheets in a library, in order to collect the necessary information.

How things have changed (for the better in terms of ethics information) by the easy and prompt online access to court opinions, board reports, ethics opinions and the like that have become the lifeblood of this blog.

By the way, I understand that Brother Grogan is still doing these presentations, probably for over twenty consecutive years.

The Cal Ripken of Current Developments.

Jim Grogan is a career bar prosecutor who teaches an ethics class  at Loyola College of Law. While I may be biased, I do believe that experienced bar prosecutors such as Mike Oths and Jim Grogan have a lot to offer to a class of rising attorneys.

At Georgetown Law, three of our adjunct professors in the Professional Responsibility area work at the D.C. Office of Disciplinary Counsel.

Thanks to the Honorable Oths and the Concordia students who find some value in the blog.  (Mike Frisch)
