The Ohio Supreme Court ordered stayed-in-part suspensions in two disciplinary matters

2015-0293. Disciplinary Counsel v. Williams, Slip Opinion No. 2016-Ohio- 827.

On Certified Report by the Board of Professional Conduct, No. 2014-043. Orlando Joseph Williams, Attorney Registration No. 0033558, is hereby suspended from the practice of law for two years with 18 months stayed on conditions.

O’Connor, C.J., and Pfeifer, Kennedy, French, and O’Neill, JJ., concur.

O’Donnell and Lanzinger, JJ., dissent and would adopt the position of the panel and impose a two-year suspension without stay.

2015-0587. Columbus Bar Assn. v. Reed, Slip Opinion No. 2016-Ohio-834.

On Certified Report by the Board of Professional Conduct, No. 2014-050. Joseph Dues Reed, Attorney Registration No. 0025938, is hereby suspended from the practice of law for two years with 18 months stayed on conditions. O’Connor, C.J., and Pfeifer, O’Donnell, Kennedy, and French, JJ., concur.

Lanzinger and O’Neill, JJ., dissent and would adopt the position of the board and panel and impose a two-year suspension with six months stayed on conditions.

The Williams case involves an Akron magistrate who engaged in misconduct that included  his sexual relationship with a landlord-tenant litigant. His resignation was reported by Akron.com.

The Reed case involves a pattern of proving incompetent representation. (Mike Frisch)
