A Too Real Externship Gets A Lawyer Reprimanded

The Iowa Attorney Disciplinary Board has reprimanded an attorney who let a law student extern represent several clients while getting law school credit as an extern. The extern was employed by the attorney beyond the law school connection and engaged in unauthorized practice both before and after the externship.

He appeared as counsel in a guardianship hearing and counseled clients in a number of matters.

The school credit was given for the spring semester of 2014.

The board found that the attorney failed to properly supervise the extern/employee  and had failed to prevent unauthorized  practice of law. (Mike Frisch)
