The Word Is Disbarment But Maybe Not Forever

A Louisiana Hearing Committee recommended disbarment with the possibility of reinstatement of an attorney convicted of receiving bribes as a Monroe City Councilman.

He has been suspended since 2011.

The committee was impressed by a wealth of favorable character testimony from pastors and others that he helped the underprivileged and had a “passion for the poor.”

One witness testified that he “knew the Word.”

In sum, the committee was moved by the fact that the people who knew him best all testified that “he was good, decent, honest, compassionate, generous, Christian, hardworking, ethical, kept his word and his promises, caring, helpful, especially to the poor, elderly, children, and that he should not be disbarred.”

Thus, a chance for eventual return to practice was deemed appropriate. (Mike Frisch)
