Reciprocal Sanction For International Attorney
A British solicitor admitted in several United States jurisdictions was suspended for 18 months with reinstatement on completion of the mandatory course for new admittees by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Respondent Ann M. Olivarius practices from her office in London, England, where she is a licensed solicitor. She has also been admitted to the bars of Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Following the revocation of respondent‟s admission to the bar of New York, the District of Columbia Office of Bar Counsel recommended that we impose reciprocal discipline in the form of an indefinite suspension with a fitness requirement.
The court rejected the contention that the New York license revocation could not be a basis for reciprocal discipline. It concluded that the “roughly equivalent” sanction for the misconduct –false statements in the New York bar admissions process — was the reiprocal sanction imposed here.
