One Case, Two Sanctions
The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board has recommended discipline of two attorneys charged together with ethics violations. One of the attorneys is admitted in Louisiana; the other in Texas.
The misconduct involved a diving accident case in which the Louisiana attorney facilitated unauthorized practice by the Texas attorney and failed to supervise the work.
The Texas attorney made financial advances to the clients and obtained an improper financial interest in the litigation through $72,000 in loans from trust.
The board proposes that the Louisiana attorney be disbarred and that the Texas attorney be reprimanded and permanently enjoined from practice in Louisiana.
The Texas attorney had sought (without success) to disqualify and sanction Deputy Disciplinary Counsel Fred Ours. (Mike Frisch)
