A Virginia attorney consented to a three year suspension for misconduct in three matters. One of the cases involved lack of diligence and failure to communicate with the client. The other two were a far worse form of misconduct. Both cases were mishandled by the attorney. After the damage was done, each client met with the attorney and the senior partner of his firm (who happened to be his uncle). One client was paid $14,000; the other got $5,000. Both signed releases; neither was advised to seek independent counsel.
