The Tax Professor And the Songwriter
The Tennessee Court of Appeals affirmed the award of project costs and winding up costs, including attorneys fees, in a case that arose “from a partnership gone bad.” According to the court:
Appellant…and appellee…met through their synagogue and became friends. Prior to the transaction that is the subject of this litigation, [appellee] had loaned [appellant] money in exchange for a promissory note, which obligation had been satified. [Appellee] is a tax professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Law; [Appellee] had moved to Nashville to become a songwriter.
The transaction involved a home rehabilitation project in which the appellee had spent the allocated funds but had failed to complete the project. (Mike Frisch)
