No Censure

A judge who discouraged a pro se defendant from consulting with counsel was the subject of a judicial discipline complaint. The Rhode Island Supreme Court rejected a proposed censure and “remanded the papers” to the Commission on Judicial Tenure and Discipline, noting that the judge had retired after 20 years of otherwise distinguished service and that the improper conduct did not rise to the level of coercion.
