Former Prosecutor Faces Bar Charges

The Illinois Administrator has filed a complaint alleging misconduct by a former assistant state’s attorney

Respondent was employed as an assistant state’s attorney in Vermillion County, Illinois from November 2, 2009 to January 30, 2012 and from December 1, 2014 to August 16, 2018.

During his employment at the Vermillion County State’s Attorney’s office, Respondent prosecuted felony cases including cases charging possession and sale of controlled substances, including cocaine.

Between August 2017 and August 2018, Respondent purchased and used cocaine. Respondent purchased the cocaine from Frederick “Eli” Stanford (“Stanford”).

On August 3, 2018, Stanford was arrested in Vermillion County, Illinois. Police obtained a search warrant for Stanford’s cell phone and reviewed the call log and text messages. Stanford’s phone contained text messages between himself and Respondent including messages where Respondent arranged to purchase cocaine from Stanford. In a subsequent interview, Stanford told police he had been selling cocaine to Respondent since 2017.

On August 16th, 2018, Respondent resigned from his employment at the Vermillion County State’s Attorney’s office.
