CLE Suspensions In Ohio

The Commission on Continuing Legal Education today issued sanctionsagainst 356 attorneys who failed to comply with the continuing legaleducation requirements for the 2009 reporting period.

Includedin today’s sanctions were 68 attorneys who were also suspended from thepractice of law for failing to comply with their continuing legaleducation requirements.

Attorneys are required to complete aminimum of 24 hours of continuing legal education every two years.Judges are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of continuinglegal education every two years.

Ohio’s attorneys are splitin two groups according to the alphabetical listing of their last namefor reporting purposes, with one group required to report by the end ofevery even-numbered year and the other required to report by the end ofevery odd-numbered year. The sanctions issued today are for attorneyswho were required to complete their hours by Dec. 31, 2008, and filetheir report by Jan. 31, 2009.

The Commission on ContinuingLegal Education is created by Gov. Bar R. X and administers thecontinuing legal education requirements imposed on attorneys and judgespursuant to that rule and Gov. Jud. R. IV. The Commission alsoaccredits programs and activities that satisfy Ohio’s mandatory CLErequirements.
