Law-making Without Lawyers

Posted by Jeff Lipshaw

MichiganWhat would you guess is the percentage of state legislators who are lawyers in a typical large state?  I just received my March 2007 edition of the Michigan Bar Journal, and was taken aback.  Only 22 of 148 (or 14.8%) Michigan state legislators are lawyers.  Moreover, this is consistent with the average since 1971, which is 14.1%.  I cannot think of a witty conclusion for this bit of trivia.
